Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted that the use of fossil fuels is a major contributor to climate change. She stressed the urgent need to reduce fossil fuel consumption, adapt development models, and work collaboratively to combat pollution, said a press release.

She made the remarks during a virtual programme titled "Journalism in the Age of Energy Transition: COP29 Coverage Strategies and Mentoring," held on Saturday at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).

The initiative aimed to enhance the skills of journalists across print, electronic, and online media in preparation for the upcoming COP29.

Rizwana Hasan emphasized the significance of effectively reporting on climate conferences and applying knowledge gained from training to support vulnerable communities through actionable measures.

The event was chaired by PIB Director General Faruk Wasif and moderated by CAPS Chairman Professor Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder. The Guest of Honor was Emeritus Professor Dr. Ainun Nishat from BRAC University, and special guests included Naoka Martinez Backstrom, First Secretary for Environment and Climate Change at the Sweden Embassy, and M Abdullah, Managing Director of the Journalists Welfare Trust. Senior journalists also participated as mentors at the event.
