The Russian House in Dhaka jointly with the Association of Graduates from Soviet and Russian Universities in Bangladesh held an event dedicated to the contribution of alumni in the achievement of independence and the socio-economic development of modern Bangladesh.
Director of the Russian House in Dhaka Mr. Pavel Dvoychenkov mentioned in his welcoming speech that the cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh in the fields of science, culture and education continues to develop actively. He also emphasized the significant role of the Soviet Union in the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh and its post-war reconstruction as well as the historically friendly role of Russia in the development of Bangladesh.
After the War of Independence the Soviet Union provided substantial support for the reconstruction of Bangladesh including free education for Bengali students and the training of national cadres. This contributed to the emergence of a strong interest in the Russian language, which was further supported by the creation of the Association of Soviet Graduates of Bangladesh, which now has more than six thousand members. This association actively cooperates with the Russian House in Dhaka within the framework of cultural and educational initiatives, promoting the Russian language and culture in Bangladesh.
The event was accompanied by a cultural program with the participation of graduates with the performance of Russian and Bengali songs.
