At least four people were injured in clashes between students of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College in the Science Lab area of the capital today.The clashes are ongoing as of the filing of this report at 4:20pm, according to police.
City College students have blocked the roads in the area, creating long tailbacks and causing sufferings for commuters and locals.
"Tension has risen as the Dhaka College students took the street in front of the City College gate and threw stones at them this noon, following a previous conflict," DMP Dhanmondi Zone Assistant Commissioner Tariq Mostafa told "At least four people have been injured. They have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital," he said.
Members of the Bangladesh Army and police have been deployed in the area.
According to police, clashes ensued between the two groups of students since noon with chase and counter-chase ongoing at intervals. Students of the colleges had previously clashed in October, prompting City College authorities to announce a closure for 20 days.
The college reopened yesterday, according to a statement signed by City College Principal (acting) Prof Kazi Neyamul Haque.
