A strong, modern and well-trained armed forces are prerequisites for protecting the country's sovereignty, President Mohammed Shahabuddin said on Wednesday.
In a statement commemorating Armed Forces Day, President Mohammed Shahabuddin highlighted that the armed forces are being equipped with cutting-edge military technology, which will enhance their efficiency and dynamism.
He emphasized the importance of trust in leadership, mutual respect, professional skills, and discipline in the development of the armed forces.
The president also recalled the memories of the 1971 martyrs, particularly the seven recipients of the highest gallantry award, "Bir Shreshtha," and the three million lives lost during the Liberation War.
He honored the courageous members of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice, both during the war for independence and in various missions at home and abroad.
As the supreme commander of the armed forces, President Shahabuddin prayed for the eternal peace of their souls and expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the war-wounded and martyrs.
He reiterated the nation's respect and admiration for the armed forces' heroism and contributions during the Liberation War.
The president also remembered the pivotal role of the armed forces in the Liberation War, particularly on November 21, 1971, when the joint efforts of the three military branches accelerated Bangladesh's victory. He described November 21 as a significant day in the nation's struggle for independence.
The armed forces, he noted, continue to play a crucial role in nation-building, including assisting the civil administration during natural disasters and national crises, while safeguarding the country's sovereignty.
He praised their sense of responsibility, patience, and patriotism during the July-August student protests, which earned them public admiration.
The president acknowledged the armed forces' efforts on the international stage, particularly in UN peacekeeping missions, where they continue to represent Bangladesh with professionalism, discipline, honesty, and dedication.
