Former Chief Justice Ruhul Amin passed away in the early hours today (24 November). He breathed his last at 4:30 am while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). In accordance with the traditions of the Supreme Court (SC), judicial activities in both of its divisions will remain suspended today, as reads a letter of condolence from the SC.
However, all administrative functions of the Supreme Court Registry will continue as usual. Ruhul Amin was born into a noble family in Lakhsmipur on (1 June), 1941. He obtained his bachelors in Political Science from Dhaka University in 1962 and LL.B in 1965.
Ruhul Amin was listed as a lawyer of the then East Pakistan High Court in 1966 and a lawyer of the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court in 1981.
On 18 February, 1992, Ruhul Amin was appointed as a High Court justice of the Supreme Court. He joined the Appellate Division as a justice on 11 January, 2001.
Ruhul Amin performed his duties as the 15th chief justice of Bangladesh from 1 March, 2007 to 31 may, 2008.
