Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Tuesday that no false case should be accepted under any circumstances, and ordered to bring the plaintiffs who file false cases under trial. Speaking at a meeting on overall law and order at Sylhet Circuit House, the adviser focused on the rising trend of false cases and urged strict action to curb the issue.

"Regardless of criticism or challenges, law enforcement must continue its efforts to maintain order," he said. "It’s important to consider the difficult circumstances under which you are working. Whether or not your efforts are acknowledged, the work must go on."

He held extortion responsible for rising prices of essential goods and called upon a crackdown on extortion with firm measures. The adviser praised the recent transparency in police recruitment and stressed the importance of maintaining this standard. "Recruitment and posting irregularities will not be tolerated."

Jahangir called for intensified drives to recover illegal arms and emphasized vigilance regarding mob justice incidents. Law enforcers were urged to act against top criminals who resume illegal activities after being released through legal channels.

Referring to improvements in crime control in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area, the adviser credited the success to the collaborative efforts of all agencies. "If everyone works together, better results can be achieved. Those with information on crimes should share it to support others," he added.

He further stressed the need to eradicate extortion and harassment through false cases. "Those with good intentions are not involved in these activities," he noted. The adviser called for efforts to restore public trust in the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) through improved behavior and reduced grievances among citizens.

Senior officials of the Armed Forces, district, upazila administration and different offices and agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs including Sylhet divisional commissioner were present in the meeting.
