The Election Commission's (EC) does not plan on using Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in the upcoming national elections, newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said today.
"EVMs are very problematic. We will not go into this hassle. Our plan is to hold the elections on the ballot," the CEC told reporters in his office at the Nirbachon Bhaban in Agargaon.
The Election Commission's (EC) preparations are underway to hold the national election within the timeframe set by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said today (17 December).
As part of the preparation, the commission will first prepare an accurate voter list, the CEC told reporters in his office at the Nirbachon Bhaban in Agargaon.
He also mentioned that they are not considering organising local government polls before the national parliamentary elections. "We started working on Day-1 for the national election. We are taking all the necessary preparations. We will be fully prepared to hold the election within the timeframe set by the chief adviser."
Asked whether the EC would announce any election roadmap, he said, "The chief adviser has announced a time frame [yesterday]. We will proceed accordingly. We are not considering announcing any roadmap publicly, but we will certainly have our own action plan for the work."
His comments come after Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday told the nation that the next general election can be held between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026 after accomplishing necessary reforms.
"Broadly speaking, the election date can be set between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026," he said while addressing the nation this morning.
