Outgoing Japanese Ambassador highlights strengthened ties in farewell meeting with President

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh IWAMA Kiminori on Thursday said that his country is supporting the implementation of the Interim Government's reform programme. He said this during a farewell meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.

The president's press secretary briefed reporters after the meeting. The outgoing Japanese Ambassador said that Japan is working to develop trade and investment relations with Bangladesh as well as people-to-people ties between the two countries.

President Shahabuddin thanked the outgoing Japanese Ambassador for successfully discharging his duties.

Describing Japan as the single largest bilateral development partner for Bangladesh's development, the president expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its assistance in various mega projects in Bangladesh.

The president called upon Japanese investors to explore in various sectors including ICT, medical equipment, and tourism in Bangladesh. He also extended his gratitude to Japan for its support in addressing the Rohingya crisis, emphasizing the need for dignified repatriation of the displaced population to Myanmar.

During the meeting, the outgoing Japanese ambassador expressed his gratitude to the president for providing all-round support in carrying out his duties.

Secretaries concerned to the president were present during the meeting.
