Fire at Secretariat a ‘conspiracy’: Mostafa Jamal Haider

Last night's fire incident at the Secretariat was not an isolated event but a "calculated conspiracy," said Mostafa Jamal Haider, leader of the 12-Party Alliance, during a protest rally in Dhaka today.

Speaking as the chief guest at the rally, which focused on demands to reduce the prices of essential goods, address anti-national activities, and rehabilitate former councilors, Haider called for renewed national unity.

"Our student community and political parties are currently divided," Haider said. "The time has come to form a national unity that is stronger and more determined than in July. To the interim government, we say that we are not your enemies. However, if you fail to understand the pulse of the people, then a disastrous consequence awaits."

He expressed concern about a "crack in our spirit of struggle" and said that confusion was being deliberately sown. "After the fall of Sheikh Hasina, we wholeheartedly supported the formation of the interim government. We still have faith in them. However, this government continues to make mistakes, and these mistakes are causing cracks in national unity," he said.

He warned that failing to maintain the post-July national unity would embolden "enemies who oppose national unity."

Addressing broader security issues, Haider also emphasized the need to address instability near the country's borders. "The situation around the country's borders cannot be ignored," he said, adding that attempts to destabilize the Chattogram Hill Tracts require immediate attention and stronger national unity.
