Health reforms based on commission’s recommendations: Adviser

Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum has said that steps will be taken to carry out reforms following the recommendations of the Health Sector Reform Commission. The adviser made the remarks during a discussion meeting at the Health Ministry on Sunday. She said the purpose of the meeting was to assess the necessary preparations for making healthcare more people-oriented, accessible and universal.

The meeting covered a wide range of issues, including primary healthcare, urban health management, drug management and health sector procurement, cancer treatment, forensic medicine, maternal health, curriculum and career planning for health sector stakeholders, preventive care, health protection laws, hospital management and the manpower crisis in the health sector.

National Prof AK Azad Khan, Chairman of the Health Sector Reform Commission, said that the Health Sector Reform Commission will provide recommendations to the government on short, medium and long-term policy issues regarding the necessary reforms.

The commission will seriously consider the issues raised in today's discussion. "In this regard, it will take into account the government's financial capacity and the implementability of the recommendations", he added.

Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Prof Dr Md Sayedur Rahman said that everyone expects the recommendations of the Health Sector Commission to be bold, people-friendly and doctor-friendly one.

Members of the Health Commission, Secretary of the Health Services Department Md Saidur Rahman, Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Department Dr Md Sarwar Bari were present at the meeting.
