Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin had a courtesy meeting with Bimstec Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey on Monday afternoon in the Secretariat. During the meeting, they discussed in detail the steps needed to make Bimstec more effective.
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin stated that the organization, established to work on trade, investment, and economic cooperation, is focused on safeguarding the interests of its member countries. However, the achievements over the past 27 years have not been as expected, he added.
He also said that Bimstec could play a significant role in enhancing trade among the member countries, particularly in fostering better mutual understanding between businesspeople.
The Commerce Adviser also called for the creation of a roadmap to double regional trade through Bimstec. Bimstec Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey emphasized that ministerial meetings would help make Bimstec more effective.
He sought Bangladesh's cooperation to make these meetings fruitful, aiming to boost exports, imports, and investment within the regional framework. Commerce Secretary Md. Abdur Rahim was also present at the meeting.
