The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has said that some news reports about its Director General (DG) Maj Gen Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui's upcoming visit to India have tarnished the image of the force.
It said the reports published in some media outlets in the country under titles like "secrecy over BGB chief's India visit, storm of criticism on social media" has come to the attention of the force.
"Such news in some media outlets is tarnishing BGB's image and also creating confusion in the public mind. It is not a secret matter and BGB has made no attempt to maintain secrecy on this issue," said the paramilitary force in a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Friday (24 January).
It said that on 27 December 2024, a post on BGB's Facebook page stated that a Border Conference at the director general level between BGB and India's Border Security Force would be held in mid-February 2025. Based on that post, various news outlets in the country also published reports.
Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have mentioned this conference in multiple press briefings.
The conference, which will take place in New Delhi from 17 to 21 February, will also include representatives from other relevant ministries and organisations of the country, said BGB in the statement. It requested all to refrain from posting or being influenced by misleading posts that may create confusion.
