Bangladesh is considering launching direct flights between Dhaka and Islamabad to strengthen bilateral ties, said Mohammad Iqbal Hussain, the Bangladesh high commissioner to Pakistan, yesterday (25 January). He shared the possible plans of the Bangladesh government while speaking at a press conference in Peshawar city, reports The Express Tribune.

Emphasising the deep and historic relationship between the two countries, Iqbal reportedly expressed the intention to start direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan to facilitate travel and connectivity.

He said that direct air links would boost cooperation in tourism, education, trade, and other sectors, as the trade and diplomatic relations between the countries are improving and would continue to grow stronger, according to the report.

Highlighting the growing demand for Bangladeshi goods in Pakistan, the envoy noted the modest volume of ongoing trade between the two nations via shipping routes linking Chattogram and Karachi.

He also encouraged investment in healthcare and industrial sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Touching on Bangladesh's commitment to freedom of expression, Iqbal praised the role of social media in empowering youth to voice their rights.

He also touched on the upcoming elections in Bangladesh and reiterated the government's focus on economic development as a key priority.
