The US support for the displaced Rohingyas, who took shelters in Bangladesh, will continue.
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir told this at a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here this evening.
‘On his assumption of office, US President Donald Trump suspended US support to all countries globally for 90 days but the assistance and resources that USAID continues to provide for the Rohingyas’ food and nutrition have been exempted from it,’ he said.
That is why, Apurba said, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed his gratitude to the US president, while officials of the US Embassy in Dhaka today met Chief Adviser’s High Representative on Rohingya Crisis and Priority Issues Dr Khalilur Rahman to convey the message.
In a statement, the chief adviser’s press wing also said, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus expressed his sincere thanks to President Trump for exempting life saving food and nutrition support to the displaced Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh from the US aid freeze.
Officials of the US Embassy in Dhaka visited High Representative Dr Khalilur Rahman this afternoon and informed him about this exemption.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present at the press briefing.
