A pedestrian was shot last night (1 February) during a gunfire exchange between two teenage gangs in Dhaka's Hatirjheel area. The injured man, identified as Zilani, 55, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, reports Prothom Alo quoting Inspector Mohammad Faruq of DMCH police outpost.

When asked about the incident, Hatirjheel Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Selim told the Bangla daily that there had been an exchange of gunfire between two teenage gangs in the Ulan area of Hatirjheel.

He said one person was reportedly shot during the incident and that the police were gathering further information. Meanwhile, another DMP official told Prothom Alo that no one from either gang was injured during the gunfire exchange.

"Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved," he added.

Zilani is a rickshaw puller and resides in the Ulan area, said his daughter Shefali Akhtar. She said her father was standing in front of their house during the shooting when he was suddenly shot in the abdomen.
