The political control over the Election Commission is the biggest reason behind its bad reputation, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said today (9 February). Speaking during the RFED Media Award event at the EC Premises this morning, he said if this was not stopped then the problem could not be solved.
Assuring that the current EC does not want to work on behalf of any political party, the CEC said they do not want to get involved in politics either.
"The commission will work according to their commitment," the CEC said. During the event, the CEC added that the EC has been destroyed as an institution.
"In reality, all the institutions in the country are facing the same situation," he said. Urging everyone to help the EC, he also said the EC alone cannot hold a free, fair and neutral election.
