Former health secretary Jahangir Alam Bulbul has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. He was taken into custody early today (18 February) from the capital, confirmed Additional Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Rezaul Karim Mallik.
He said, "He was arrested from his residence and taken to the DB office, where he is currently being held. He is accused in multiple cases, including those filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). However, it has not yet been decided under which case he will be officially shown arrested."
Jahangir Alam was appointed as the secretary of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in October 2023. On 20 August 2024, he was transferred to the Planning Commission as a member. Later, on 28 October of the same year, the government sent him into compulsory retirement.
