With robberies and thefts surging across Bangladesh, including in Dhaka, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury promised a swift response Monday. Speaking to reporters after a core committee meeting on law and order at the ministry, he declared, “Law enforcement’s presence will be felt from this evening.”

Chowdhury acknowledged progress but admitted room for improvement. “The law and order situation is satisfactory, but incidents like the recent Banasree robbery once taking days to uncover are now detected instantly,” he said. “Small crimes have always occurred, but we’re focused on preventing repeats.”

Pressed on his directives, he was firm: “You’ll see a massive uptick in law enforcement activity tonight. There’s public panic, and I’ve held this meeting to reassure people. I’ve instructed agencies to ramp up efforts starting this evening you’ll feel the difference.”
