The detectives have also recovered the looted 200 bhoris of gold and arms from the arrestees, according to a press release issued by DMP this morning (8 March).

That the robbery was carried out by a professional gang of robbers. They had surveyed the area for several days.

The gang operates both in and outside Dhaka, with members spread across different locations. Each of the arrestees has multiple cases against them, said the official. On 23 February night, the gold trader -- identified as Anwar Hossain, owner of Alankar Jewellers -- was shot and stabbed by six armed men on three motorcycles in front of his house at Banasree.

He was headed home after closing his shop located in the same area when he was shot at by a total of six rounds of bullets and one bullet hit him, police said. Anwar was initially taken to nearby Farayzi Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Inspector Md Faruk, the in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said Anwar was brought to the hospital with bullet wounds and injuries from sharp weapons. After being taken to the hospital, Anwar told the police that he was heading home after closing his shop at night with 200 bhoris of gold and Tk1 lakh.
