The state is unable to provide security for women, National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Organiser of North unit Sarjis Alam said at a protest rally today (8 March). The rally – demanding safety and cyber security for women – took place in front of the National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh at 4:30pm.

The NCP leader also said law enforcement agencies must be active so that no one imposes their personal beliefs on others. "If sisters are harassed using mob culture, the law and order situation will prove to be a failure. From today onwards, we want to see action, not talk," he added.

Samantha Sharmin, senior joint convener of the NCP, said, "The position of political parties towards women must be clarified. For this, we are looking forward to seeing the report of the commission formed for women. NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara, Senior Joint member Secretary Nahida Sarwar Chowdhury Niba were also present at the rally.

Earlier, in a statement sent to the media last night, the NCP expressed concern over recent incidents of violence against women in the country. The party demanded that those involved in such incidents be brought to justice quickly.
