Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has vowed that those involved in recent rape incidents will face justice and strict punishment. The Adviser made the remarks on Sunday morning after visiting the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka Cantonment to meet the child victim of the rape incident in Magura. He inquired about the child's treatment and directed the hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care. Senior officials from the CMH were also present during the visit.
Earlier, on the day of the incident (March 6), the Adviser had contacted the child's mother by phone to inquire about the child's condition and assured her that the government would ensure the highest standard of medical care. On Saturday, the child was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the CMH in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Regarding the incident, the Adviser stated that a case had been filed at Magura Sadar Police Station, with four individuals named as accused in the rape and attempted murder case of the eight-year-old girl. The police have already arrested the four accused individuals listed in the case. The Ministry of Home Affairs is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators do not escape justice.
The Adviser further emphasised, "I have instructed law enforcement agencies to take a firm stand against sexual harassment and rape. A list of all past incidents of violence against women will be compiled, and I have directed a swift investigation and the submission of reports to the court."
He added, "Women must be able to perform their duties both at home and outside without fear or obstruction. Anyone who attempts to hinder or commit violence against them will be brought to justice. There will be no leniency in this matter." Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also stressed the importance of awareness and vocal opposition against violence toward women, urging the need to uphold family, social, and moral values.
