The interim government has reinstated the posthumous Independence Award for late President Ziaur Rahman. The Cabinet Division announced this decision in a notice on Tuesday (March 11) regarding the nominees for this year's Independence Award.
The notice stated that the posthumous Independence Award, which was given to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in 2003, was annulled by the government in 2016 following a ruling by the Supreme Court. However, since the court's verdict did not specifically instruct the cancellation of the award, the government has decided to revoke its previous decision and reinstate the award, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the Liberation War.
In 2016, a Cabinet committee had decided to withdraw Ziaur Rahman’s Independence Award.
