Rail communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country was partially disrupted as a container train's carriage derailed today (19 March). Earlier on the day, the rail communication was completely suspended on both up and down lines for about an hour and a half due to the derailment. The authorities later arranged for trains to operate on the up line. The operational line is currently being used for both incoming and outgoing trains.
"While a container train was entering the station at around 11:35am, two carriages from the rear derailed on the down line. Subsequently, all train movements at the station were halted," said Mohammad Anwar Hossain, station master of Kamalapur Railway Station, told the media this afternoon.
"Now, train movement will resume on a single line." Work is underway to clear the entire line. There may be delays in train schedules today, the railway official added.
