Australia will now process visas for Bangladeshi citizens through its High Commission in Dhaka, instead of New Delhi. Australian Home Minister Tony Burke informed Bangladesh's Home Adviser, Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, of this decision during a phone call on Thursday.
The Home Adviser shared this information during an advisory council meeting at the Chief Adviser’s office, adding that the change would take effect immediately. Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
This decision follows a request made by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during his visit to Australia in October last year. Previously, Australia processed visas for Bangladeshi nationals in New Delhi.
