A member of the organizing committee received a letter threatening to stop the Mangal Shobhajatra. The committee member Abtahi Rahman lodged a complaint with the Shahbag Police Station claiming that he had received a death threat.
Wednesday (12 April) the Officer-in-Charge of the Shahbag Police Station, Nur Mohammad, confirmed that a member of the organizing committee received a threat last night.
Rahman stated in the complaint that during the procession, on 11th April at 9:45 pm, a black paper with the text "This is Shirker's work. Do not cause harm here. There may be an attack at any time on that day." was found on a plastic chair with a 50 Taka note on it, on the west side of the Charukola building, where they had been carrying out the responsibilities of the finance and security committee of the Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts for the Mangal Shobhajatra procession.
Later, the matter was discussed with the higher authorities of the university's proctorial team, and upon their instructions, the complaint was lodged with the police. If I want to know about this, OC Nur Mohammad said, "A regular diary has been made at our police station regarding this issue. We have taken the application and are investigating the matter."
Regarding this issue, Om Prakash, the convener of the 1430 Mangal Shobhajatra Celebration Committee, told The Daily Messenger, "This kind of note has been received by different people at different times, but some people can make fun of it, when asked about GD's issue, he said that we are taking a legal action thinking about security, we are not at all afraid of this kind of note."
On the upcoming 14th of April, Bengali New Year or Pohela Boishakh will be celebrated. Inclusion of the Mangal Shobhajatra procession, the government has instructed all educational institutions in the country to observe Pohela Boishakh with importance on this day.
As per the directive of the Ministry of Education, all educational institutions will celebrate the Bengali New Year in their own management in a festive environment and with appropriate enthusiasm."
