Digital Security Act to be amended by September: Anisul Huq

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has said the Digital Security Act (DSA) will be amended by September.

He stated it following a meeting with the visiting US State Department's Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya at his secretariat office in Dhaka on Thursday (13 July).

Following the meeting, the Law Minister told journalists that they discussed about the DSA.

He said he had informed the visiting US delegation about the DSA which he said about the law earlier.

The Law Minister further said the US delegation said again and again that they wanted to see a free, fair and participatory election in Bangladesh. On Wednesday, the Law Secretary also told the European Union delegation that necessary legal structures was available in the country to hold a free, fair and impartial election in Bangladesh. "We also mentioned about those supporting laws to the US delegation."

The issue of Gazipur labour leader Shahidul Islam's brutal murder was raised at the meeting.

The Law Minister said he told the US delegation that the previous culture does not exist anymore that the victim would not get justice. Fair trial of any crime takes place based on fair investigation.

The Law Minister also claimed that they didn't discuss about the issue of caretaker government.

During the meeting, US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and US Ambassador Peter Haas, among others, were present.
