Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has urged all to supplement the government's goal for building 'Smart Bangladesh'.

"Those, who are inspired with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's ideology and life-long struggle, will have to transform the shock into power and thus supplement the government's goal for building 'Smart Bangladesh' strengthening Sheikh Hasina's hands," he said.

The DSCC Mayor was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and Doa Mahfil marking the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu and the National Mourning Day at the Officer's Club in the capital Tuesday (22 August) evening.

In a scathing attack to Ziaur Rahman, Taposh, the youngest son of martyred Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, said Zia was the main mastermind behind the August 15 carnage.

"It has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that Zia was one of the killers of the then President and the Father of the Nation," he said adding Ziaur Rahman paved the way for killing Bangabandhu and most of his family members as well as ensured safety and security to the killers.

The DSCC mayor alleged that all the activities of Ziaur Rahman were against the War of Liberation and against Bangabandhu and his family.

He, choking with emotion, said those who sacrificed their lives on that fateful night of August 15 did not seek mercy for their lives, rather embraced martyrdom with bravery.

Former Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office and currently Member of Parliament from Netrakona-4 constituency Sajjadul Hassan spoke as the special guest. Hassan is the chief adviser of the Greater Mymensingh Kormojibi Samity, Dhaka.

Presided over by President of Greater Mymensingh Kormojibi Samity, Dhaka and Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Kamrul Hasan, Lt Col (retd) Quazi Sazzad Ali Zahir, Bir Pratik, Padmashri spoke as the main discussant.

General Secretary of the Samity and Deputy Chief of the Planning Commission Mahbub Hasan Shahin also spoke.

Former Chairman of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation Md Hemayet Hossain gave the address of welcome.

Members of the Samity including Bangladesh Competition Commission Chairperson Pradip Ranjan Chakrabarty, Planning Commission Member AKM Fazlul Haque, secretaries of various ministries and divisions, professionals from different sectors attended the discussion meeting and doa mahfil.

Paying deep homage to the memory of the Father of the Nation and most of his family members who were brutally killed by a group of disgruntled army men on the fateful night of August 15, 1975, Sajjadul Hassan said although many global leaders and heads of state were killed in different times, but there is no such global incident of killing a great leader with most of his family members except the August 15 killings.

He alleged that there are also some intellectually corrupt people in the country who are trying to establish that the August 21 grenade attack was a 'staged drama'.

Sajjadul also urged all to become vocal against such propaganda.

Paying glowing tribute to the memory of Bangabandhu, Quazi Zahir recalled the boldness and strong resolve of Father of the Nation during the War of Liberation as he was then arrested and taken to Pakistani prison.

Earlier, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation and his martyred family members as well as for the peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
