Bangladesh Bank has dissolved the board of directors of National Bank Limited, a private bank plagued by multiple problems, in order to protect the interest of depositors.
The central bank also formed a new seven-member board to operate the bank.
Mezbaul Haque, an executive director and spokesperson of the central bank, confirmed the developments on Thursday (21 December), saying Bangladesh Bank issued two separate circulars to notify its decision.
Led by Syed Ferhat Anwar, a former of professor of Dhaka University’s Institute of Business Administration, the new members are Md Sirajul Islam, a former executive director of Bangladesh Bank, M Kamal Hossain, former managing director of Southeast Bank, Parveen Haque Sikder, Khalilur Rahman, Moazzem Hossain and Md Shafiqur Rahman.
