Nasrul Hamid, born on 13 November 1964, is a prominent Bangladeshi politician. He has held the position of Member of Parliament for Dhaka-3 since 2008, successfully securing re-election in 2014 and 2018. Notably, he currently serves as the State Minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
In 2019, Mr. Hamid was reappointed as the State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, further solidifying his commitment to public service. He formally assumed office on January 7, 2019. His reappointment was a testament to his dedication and alignment with the national vision for 2021.

The power output of the country experienced a significant increase, surging from 10,289 MW to an impressive 21,419 MW. This surge in power generation underscores his effective management and commitment to meeting the growing energy demands of the nation.
A noteworthy initiative during his tenure was the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in the Power divisions.
In the realm of gas production, Nasrul Hamid oversaw a substantial increase from 2,300 MMCFD to 3,200 MMCFD. This boost in gas production is crucial for supporting the diverse energy needs of the country.
A major focus of Nasrul Hamid's tenure was the extensive restructuring of transmission lines. The ambitious plan to extend power transmission lines by 36,870 km by the year 2041 reflects a strategic vision for ensuring widespread access to electricity across the nation.
In the distribution sector, there was a notable increase in customer focus within distribution companies. The implementation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, along with the use of underground cables and increased load on substations, showcases a commitment to modernizing and optimizing the distribution infrastructure.
Furthermore, Nasrul Hamid's administration successfully facilitated the distribution and utilisation of 5.5 million solar home systems. This achievement marks the implementation of the largest off-grid power solution in the world.

He, implemented of 3 FSRU and small regasification units to alleviate the countries gas crisis. And focuses on human resources development for the future through a string of development agencies. Most notable are: Bangladesh petroleum Institute, Bangladesh Power Institute, Energy and Power research council and Bangladesh Power Management Institute
He involved the youth by creating an internship program led by a ministry; a first in Bangladesh while increased the capacity of Bangladesh’s Power and Energy companies to enter into the financial markets.

Nasrul Hamid has been awarded by the distinguished organisations and countries. He receives the Order of Civil Merit (Orden del Civil Mérito) of Spain from Spanish Ambassador Álvaro de Salas Giménez de Azcárate on behalf of King FELIPE VI, Kingdom of Spain at a programme in Dhaka. This is the highest civilian award by the Government of Spain. King FELIPE VI honored Nasrul Hamid for his significant contribution to the improvement of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Spain.
He has been honoured with “Visionary Leader of Change” award. World HRD Congress, an India-based organisation, selected Mr. Hamid for the award for organising the youths of Bangladesh and making great contribution to increasing their capabilities and financial opportunities.
Mr. Hamid has been awarded 'Charismatic Leader of the Youth' by The Golden Globe Tigers 2018 for his significant contribution for creating youth development opportunities in Bangladesh. The Golden Globe Tigers is a Malaysian based organisation which recognises Charismatic Leaders from all over the world.
