A total of 400 metric tonnes of potatoes were imported from India within two days through Benapole, the country's largest land port. Alongside rice, pulses, wheat, eggs, onions, and green chilies, the government has authorised the importation of potatoes.
Aziz Khan, the Revenue Officer at the Customs Cargo Branch of Benapole Check post, confirmed the importation of 400 metric tons of potatoes in 16 trucks over two days via the Petrapole port in India.
The importing entity for the potatoes is Integrated Food and Beverage. The port authority has stated that the exporting company is PepsiCo India Holdings from India. Transmarine C&F Agent, a company, has submitted the requisite documentation to clear the potato shipment from the port.
Masum Billa, representing Transmarine Logistics Limited C&F agent, stated that 400 metric tons of potatoes were imported in 16 Indian trucks on the previous Wednesday and Thursday. The import cost of potatoes per metric ton is USD 194. He mentioned that the potato shipment is scheduled to be released on Sunday.
Rezaul Karim, director of the Benapole land port, mentioned, "400 metric tons of potatoes have been imported through the Benapole port in two separate shipments. The potato shipment is presently at the port. We are collaborating with the importers to facilitate swift clearance."
Hemant Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Assistant Officer of the Benapole Checkpost Plant Disease Control Center, stated that 400 metric tonnes of potatoes were imported from India at the port. Once the necessary documents are submitted on behalf of the importer, the release will be permitted after assessing the quality of the potatoes.
Prior to this, on December 2, 74 tons of potatoes were imported via three trucks. Following that, no further potato imports were recorded through this port.
