Further fall takes DSEX back to 35 months ago

On the second working day of the week, the country's stock market witnessed further fall on Tuesday. Out of 396 companies traded in Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the main capital market of the country, the price of only 41 increased. On the contrary, the price of 319 decreased.

As a result, DSE's key index DSEX fell by 84 points. Investors' market capitalisation fell by TK 39,390 crore as the index sharply fell. Meanwhile, a group of investors protested on the streets of Motijheel to protest against the fall in prices.

According to DSE data, shares came under selling pressure earlier in the day on Tuesday. This pressure continued till the end of the day's trading. As a result, 16,13,35,863 shares, bonds and mutual funds were traded in the market at the end of the day with a total turnover of Tk 465.54 crore, which is Tk 21 crore less than the previous day. 

After the day's decline, DSE's main index, DSEX, fell 84 points to 5814 points. Which has gone to the position of last 35 months ago. Earlier on May 23, 2021, DSEX was at 5787 points. Then on March 19, the index is at its lowest.

The DSE-30 index, which consists of 30 companies, is down by 22 points compared to the previous day at 2,200 points. And the DSE Shariah index fell by 17 points to 1,268 points compared to the previous day.

Shares of Asiatic Laboratories were the top contributors to the trade. Tk 40.65 crore shares of the company have been traded. 16 crore 2 lakh shares of Fu-Wang Ceramics in the second place were traded. Golden Son is in the third position with a share transaction of Tk 15.47 crore.

Besides, the list of top ten companies in terms of transactions on DSE includes- Central Pharmaceuticals, Renata Limited, Best Holding, SS Steel, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, British American Tobacco and Lavello Ice Cream.

The other capital market of the country, in Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), CASPI fell by 276 points to 16653 points from the previous day. Out of the 218 companies traded on CSE, the share prices of 36 companies increased. On the contrary, the shares of 170 companies decreased and 12 companies remained unchanged. The total transaction was Tk 16.83 crore.
