Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Commissioner Professor Dr. Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed has said that the current market situation can be resolved through good governance, ultimately fostering investor confidence.

A meeting of the top officials of the 'DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh' (DBA), an organisation of brokerage owners of the capital market, was held with the BSEC on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the current state of the country's capital market, along with the challenges and necessary actions to address them, were discussed by the BSEC Commissioner.

Also present were DBA President Saiful Islam, Senior Vice President Md Saifuddin and Director Suman Das.

The BSEC commissioner at the meeting said, “BSEC is working in coordination with all the market intermediary institutions for the welfare of the capital market. It is emphasising on listing new good companies in the market to bring more dynamics to the country's capital market. BSEC has already formed a committee to take necessary measures including the increase in the listed products of the market.”

After discussing the current situation of the capital market, the representatives of BSEC and DBA agreed to work together to remove the existing weaknesses in the country's capital market and move it forward as quickly as possible in order to stimulate the capital market in the long term.

Both parties agreed that some of the negative news recently published in the media were not realistic in many cases. The commission urged the common investors not to panic. The market is running at its own pace and it is assured that necessary measures will be taken by the Commission to keep the market normal.

Also, the top officials of the brokerage house during the meeting requested the BSEC to take necessary steps and activities to encourage investment in the capital market and popularise the stock market of the country by attracting investors.

The representatives of the brokerage houses assured that they would do their best to help the country's market get to a better position.
