Capital market to go a long way if all work together: BSEC chairman

Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Professor Shibli Rubaiyat Ul Islam has said that the country’s capital market will go a long way.

According to him, “We will all work together for the development of the capital market. If everyone works together, the capital market will go a long way.”

He was speaking as the chief guest at an iftar mahfil organised by Capital Market Journalists Forum (CMJF), an organisation of journalists working on the capital market, at Dhaka Club in the capital on Thursday.

The BSEC chairman said, “This is the holy month of Ramadan. We will work for the welfare of the country and nation in this month. All of us will take the market far ahead.”

DSE Chairman Dr Hafiz Mohammad Hasan Babu said, “The bright future of the capital market is ahead, I wish the cooperation of journalists here. The capital market will play a major role in building the Prime Minister’s Smart Bangladesh. We will move the capital market forward together.”

DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA) President Saiful Islam said the bond market has not grown as it should have. “If we all try harder, we can make the bond market better.”

President of Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA) Majeda Khatun said, “We have applied to NBR regarding the issue of tax in merchant banks. Tax rates are very high in merchant banks. We hope you all will work on this.”

CMJF President SM Golam Samdani Bhuiyan presided over the Iftar Mahfil conducted by General Secretary Abu Ali.

CMSF Chairman and Prime Minister’s former principal Secretary Najibur Rahman, Capital Market Expert Prof. Abu Ahmed, BSEC Commissioner Prof. Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, BSEC Commissioner Prof. Mizanur Rahman, DSE MD Dr ATM Tariquzzaman, former president of BMBA Sayedur Rahman and other people related to capital market were present at the programme.
