The stock market saw a Tk 679 crore increase in market capital as the prices of most of the traded shares rose last week.
As a result, the market returned to a positive trend after nearly two months of continuous decline. In these two months, the capital of investors saw a decline of more than Tk 1.08 lakh crore.
Last week’s trade was marked by three days of index rise and two days of decline.
According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, the share prices of 188 companies increased against the decrease in that of 39 between March 31 and April 4. Moreover, the prices of 168 companies’ stocks remained unchanged.
All three indices of the DSE went up as the share prices of most of the traded companies rose. Of these, the main index – DSEX – increased by 17.79 points to 5,796 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.
Along with this, the DSES Shariah Index increased by 11 points to reach 1,266. Also, the DS-30 index rose by 3 points and reached 2,014.
This caused market capitalisation to increase by Tk 679.59 crore. Market capitalisation at the beginning of last week was Tk 6,79,229 crore, which increased to Tk 6,79,908.62 crore at the end.
The volume of transactions also increased. Total transactions on the DSE were Tk 2,174.2 crore, up from Tk 1,975.75 crore in the previous week.
Last week, average transactions on the DSE were Tk 434 crore, which was Tk 493 crore in the previous week.
Shinepukur Ceramics Limited topped last week’s chart. Shares of the company worth Tk 23.57 crore were traded. Alif Industries Limited came in second, followed by Central Pharmaceuticals Limited, Malek Spinning Mills Ltd, Asiatic Laboratories Limited, TAUFIKA FOODS AND LOVELLO ICE-CREAM PLC, Emerald Oil Industries, Fu-Wang Ceramic Industries, Golden Son, and Square Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Besides, MAKSONSPIN, METROSPIN, KAY&QUE, AIL, LOVELLO, DSSL, INTECH, KDSALTD, KTL, and VFSTDL were the top gainers.
On the other hand, the main index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – CASPI – increased by 61 points to reach 16,614 last week. Out of the 3,710 shares traded during this period, the prices of 134 increased, 148 decreased, and 28 remained unchanged.
The CSE saw transactions of Tk 53 crore shares, down from Tk 97 crore in the previous week.
