The number of beneficiary owner (BO) accounts owned by local and foreign investors in the capital market increased by 1,937 in March, the month when stock prices witnessed a declining trend.

The information was obtained from Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL).

According to the CDBL data, on March 5, the number of BO accounts was 1,785,726, which rose to 1,787,663 on April 4. The number of accounts held by local investors increased by 1,884, and foreign investors by 27. The number of institutional investors also increased.

Stakeholders say in addition to the much-anticipated withdrawal of the floor price, Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam is going to be the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman again for the next four years. As a result, foreign and local investors have started investing with the expectation that there will be good profits.

The stock market saw a Tk 679 crore increase in market capital as the prices of most of the traded shares went up last week. As a result, the market returned to a positive trend after nearly two months of continuous decline.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, the share prices of 188 companies increased against the decrease in that of 39 between March 31 and April 4. Moreover, the prices of 168 companies’ stocks remained unchanged.

As a result, all three indices of the DSE went up. Of these, the main index – DSEX – increased by 17.79 points to 5,796 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.

Along with this, the DSES Shariah Index increased by 11 points to reach 1,266. Also, the DS-30 index rose by 3 points and reached 2,014.

This caused market capitalisation to increase by Tk 679.59 crore. Market capitalisation at the beginning of last week was Tk 6,79,229 crore, which increased to Tk 6,79,908.62 crore at the end.

The volume of transactions also increased. Total transactions on the DSE were Tk 2,174.2 crore, up from Tk 1,975.75 crore in the previous week.

Last week, average transactions on the DSE were Tk 434 crore, which was Tk 493 crore in the previous week.
