The Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) raised gold prices by Tk 630 per bhori on Sunday, just a day after reducing it by Tk 840 per bhori.
The country witnessed such an unstable gold market for the first time with the record high price of 22-carat gold standing at Tk 1,19,428 per bhori as the new rate set by BAJUS came into effect at 3:30pm on Sunday.
Masudur Rahman, chairman of the Price Determination and Price Monitoring Standing Committee of BAJUS, set the new prices of gold in a statement on Sunday.
With the new price, the apex body of gold traders has increased the price of the precious metal by Tk 5,190 per bhori in April.
BAJUS slashed gold prices by Tk 840 per bhori on Saturday but increased prices four times on April 6, 8, 18, and 21.
As per the new pricing, 21-carat gold will cost Tk 1,14,003 per bhori and 18-carat gold Tk 97,709 per bhori. The traditional gold price was set at Tk 78,662 per bhori.
Though the price of gold has been increased, that of silver has been kept unchanged.
Based on the category, the price of 22-carat silver is now Tk 2,100 per bhori, 21-carat Tk 2,006 per bhori, 18-carat Tk 1,715 per bhori, and traditional silver Tk 1,283 per bhori.
