Several mango varieties, such as Gopalbhog, Golapkhas, and Sarikhas, arrived at Boro Bazar, one of the largest mango markets in Satkhira, on Friday, but prices were twice as high as last year.

Traders said prices were higher because of lower yields compared to the previous year. Mangoes were sold at prices ranging from Tk 1,500 to Tk 2,400 per maund at Boro Bazar.

Due to favourable geographical conditions, mangoes arrive earlier in Satkhira than other districts. This attracts traders as well as buyers from different parts of the country.

The traders at Boro Baza said the mangoes earn praise for their exquisite taste and quality, making them a favourite among consumers.

The Satkhira district administration has already announced mango harvesting and marketing schedules to prevent immature or substandard fruits from entering the market.

According to the schedule, Gobindobhog mangoes will start arriving in the market today, followed by Himsagar on May 21. The late variety of Langra will be harvested from May 29 and Amropali from June 10. Bombay and Golapkhas varieties were being harvested from May 9.

"The mango harvest started as per the directives of the district administration. We are also making sure that no one adds any chemical to the mangoes," said Roushan Ali, president of the Satkhira Boro Market Merchant Association.
