WorldFish Hosts Inception Workshop for Asia-Africa BlueTech Superhighway (AABS) Project funded by UK government Blue planate fund, unveiling Project Overview to Stakeholders in Dhaka, Bangladesh. WorldFish, a global leader in fisheries and aquaculture research, convened a landmark Inception Workshop for the Asia-Africa BlueTech Superhighway (AABS) Project, aimed at sharing comprehensive project insights with key stakeholders. The workshop took place on Sunday (12 May), at the Hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Chaired by Dr. Rodrigue Yossa, Director of Bioscience at WorldFish, the workshop saw the participation of esteemed guests from Universities, Government departments Research organizations, NGOs and Private Sectors, including Syed Md. Alamgir, Director General of the Department of Fisheries (DoF), who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Additionally, Dr. Md. Zulfikar Ali, Director General of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI), and A B M Feroz Ahmed, Livelihood Advisor & Deputy Team Leader for Climate & Environment at the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) in Bangladesh, Interim Country Representative, WorldFish Bangladesh, were present, further underscoring the significance of the event.
Dr. Essam, Director General of Worldfish, said about the progress of aquaculture and fisheries in Bangladesh, as Bangladesh has achieved success in fisheries in the past, it will achieve success through this project's (Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture (IMTA) and incentive-based fisheries.
The Inception Workshop served as a platform to unveil the overarching objectives, strategies, and expected outcomes of the AABS project to the assembled stakeholders. With a focus on AABS project, the project aims to revolutionize aquaculture practices in Bangladesh, fostering sustainable growth and resilience within the sector.
Syed Md. Alamgir, in his address, underscored the importance of initiatives like the AABS project in bolstering Bangladesh's aquaculture sector. He commended WorldFish for its leadership in spearheading innovative solutions and reaffirmed the DoF's steadfast support for the project's success.
Dr. Md. Zulfikar Ali echoed their sentiments, expressing optimism about the transformative potential of the AABS project and pledging their organizations' full cooperation and collaboration with the research.
A B M Feroz Ahmed also emphasized the importance of improvement of livelihoods for the coastal aquaculture farming and fishers communities through the AABS project. He also told that UK government has plan to invest to the communities who are affected by climate change.
Dr. Rodrigue Yossa, chairperson of the workshop expressed his gratitude to all participants for their unwavering support and commitment to the AABS project. He emphasized the collaborative efforts required to achieve the project's goals and highlighted the pivotal role of stakeholders in driving meaningful change within the aquaculture landscape.
The Inception Workshop concluded on a note of optimism and collective determination, setting the stage for fruitful partnerships and impactful interventions in Bangladesh's aquaculture sector.
