Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, the chairman (Senior Secretary) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), participated in the Asia-Pacific Blue Economy Forum held from May 13 to 14, 2024, in the Maldives.

Professor Rubayat participated as a panellist in a session titled ‘Blue Finance: Mechanisms and Learnings a Spotlight on Experiences from the Global South.’

The forum provided a platform for policymakers, experts, financial institutions, and private sector representatives to share perspectives and best practices on key blue economy themes.

Organised by the Climate Finance Network, with support from the governments of the UK and Sweden and hosted at UNDP, the event facilitated peer-to-peer exchanges, South-South cooperation, and avenues for collaboration.

The forum's agenda covered innovative financing mechanisms, sustainability considerations, ocean governance, and investment opportunities for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Discussions also explored the roles of the private sector, SMEs, gender equity, inclusivity, and public-private-philanthropic partnerships in advancing sustainable blue economies.
