The country’s stock market has seen a big price drop on every working day of the four trading days last week. In this, during the week, the main stock market Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) registered the names of the shares and units of a large number of companies in the price reduction list. As a result, the market capitalisation of DSE fell by more than Tk 48 thousand crore in one week.
Over the last week, most of the stock and unit prices of the DSE fell, along with all the price indices. Along with that, the transaction speed has decreased. Shares and units of only 28 companies participating in trading on the DSE registered their names in the list of price increases during the last week. On the contrary, the price has decreased by 338. And the price of 20 remains unchanged.
The market capitalisation of DSE stood at Tk 6 lakh 53 thousand 66 crores at the end of the last working day of the week as most of the institutions reduced their prices, which on the last working day of last week was Tk 7 lakh 1 thousand 824 crores. That is, the market capitalisation of DSE has decreased by Tk 48 thousand 758 crores or 6.95 per cent during the week.
Meanwhile, DSE's main price index DSEX fell by 205.02 points or 3.72 per cent. The index fell by 143.63 points or 2.54 per cent in the previous week. The DSE-30 index, made up of selected good companies, fell alongside the main price index. This index decreased by 66.29 points or 3.36 per cent during the last week. The index fell by 41.25 points or 2.05 per cent in the previous week.
And the DSE Shariah index, which is made up of companies governed by Islamic Shariah, also fell sharply last week. Last week this index decreased by 52.62 points or 4.34 per cent. The index fell by 30.41 points or 2.45 per cent in the previous week.
All the price indices fell along with the speed of transactions. An average of Tk 517 crore 50 lakh was transacted on DSE every working day of the week. In the previous week, the average daily transaction was Tk 764 crore 28 lakh. That is, the average transaction per working day has decreased by Tk 146 crore 78 lakh or 32.29 per cent.
And the total transaction in DSE during the week was Tk 2 thousand 70 crore 2 lakh. The total transaction in the previous week was Tk 3 thousand 821 crore 41 lakh. As a result, the total transaction decreased by Tk 1 thousand 751 crore 39 lakh. Total transactions are lower due to one less trading day last week.
Shares of Unilever Consumer Care were the most traded shares in terms of taka on DSE during the week. The company's shares were traded on an average daily basis of Tk 34 crore 10 lakh, which is 6.59 per cent of the total transaction. The shares of Orion Pharma in the second place were traded at an average of Tk 30 crore 76 lakh per day. ACI ranks third with an average transaction of Tk 19 crore 59 lakh per day.
Besides, the list of top ten traded companies includes - Lovello Ice Cream, British American Tobacco, Beach Hatchery, Orion Infusion, Alif Industries, E-Generation and Asiatic Laboratories.
