Banks in the country reopened with new office timings on Wednesday after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. Starting from Wednesday, banks will now remain open from 10:00am to 6:00pm. However, the transaction hour will end at 4:00pm.

Meanwhile, transactions were yet to gain momentum on Wednesday as people were still in a festive mood after the five-day holiday, according to bankers. There was no familiar busyness in the commercial hub of Motijheel in the capital. The attendance of bank officers and employees was normal. Those who came spent time chatting with colleagues and exchanging Eid greeting as their workload was low.

General Manager of Sonali Bank’s local office in Motijheel Shafiqul Islam said banks reopened after five consecutive days of holidays. “Banking activities are going on loosely, as it always happens after Eid. Tomorrow will be the same. Banking activities will be completely normal by next Sunday.”

When asked about the attendance of employees, the official of the state-owned bank said that some employees have taken extra leave on Eid. “All others came today. The staff presence in the bank will be more than 80 per cent. We are serving those who are coming.”
Banks before Eid remained open until 5:00pm from 10:00am while the transaction hour ended at 3:30pm.

Rafsan, a customer who came to City Bank, said that he came to open a DPS in the bank. “Other times are busy. Banks are also crowded. I am free now. Besides, during Eid, the crowd is less. So, I did it in less time. Besides, there is no traffic jam on the empty streets of Dhaka during Eid. I finished the work in less time.”

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest festivals of Muslims, was celebrated across the country on Monday. On the occasion of Eid, there were three days off on June 16, 17 and 18 (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). Earlier, there was the weekend on June 14 and 15 (Friday and Saturday). Due to this, this year's Eid holiday was five days.
