Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Husne Ara Sikha on Saturday said school banking will play a crucial role in Smart Bangladesh's development.

“Ensuring financial inclusion for the country's people involves having a bank account for each individual. According to a UN review, when one bank account is opened, the country's national income increases by one part,” she came up with remarks at a school banking conference organised by Mercantile Bank PLC at the auditorium of Nawabbari in Bogura.

She added, “The birth certificate ensures that students' bank accounts are secured in the same way. There is no service charge for students' school banking accounts.”

“Students must cultivate savings habits to ensure a bright future. Banks are a place of trust, where financial matters are managed promptly. All banks provide loans. Today's bank accounts will provide students with a loan of Tk 5 lakh if needed.”

So far, 43 lakh school banking accounts have been opened in the country. Banks must play an important role in school banking, she also said.
