Mashrur Riaz is set to be appointed as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the regulatory body for the capital market.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed the news to the media on Tuesday, August 13th.
This appointment comes in the wake of recent political developments, which led to the resignation of Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam from the BSEC Chairman position on Sunday, August 11th. Following his resignation, two commissioners of the organization, Professor Dr. Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Dr. Rumana Islam, also stepped down the next day.
With the resignation of the Chairman and the two commissioners, the capital market was left without leadership. This urgent appointment aims to address the leadership void.
