Ahsan H. Mansur joins as Bangladesh Bank Governor

Renowned economist and researcher Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur has joined as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank on 14 August 2024. Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur started his career as a Lecturer in the University of Dhaka in 1976.

He joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under its Economist Program in 1981. He worked in a number of important functional departments (Fiscal Affairs and Policy Review and Development departments) and area departments (Middle East and Central Asia and Asian departments) of the IMF. He did his PhD from the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1982.

 During his service at IMF, he worked in different countries of Middle East, Asia, Africa and Central America. Besides, from 1998 to 2001, he served as the Senior Resident Representative of the IMF in Pakistan. From 1989 to 1991 he served Bangladesh Government as the Finance Advisor to the Minister of Finance.

Dr. Mansur was involved in the successful introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) in Bangladesh in 1991. He served as the Division Chief of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and various other divisions concerning Kuwait, Oman, Sudan, Afghanistan and Yemen. Dr. Mansur has published extensively in various prestigious journals. He is well-known as an eminent author and researcher. Before joining Bangladesh Bank as the Governor, he was the Executive Director of Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI).
