Cashless Service During Internet Blackout

It was July 2024, an ordinary Friday in Mohammadpur.  A father and his 11 years son were enjoying a quiet day together , playing in gated residential society, unaware of the unrest brewing outside. Protests had erupted across the city, and tensions between students and law enforcement were escalating.

Suddenly, the calm was shattered. A group of protesting students, chased by the police, rushed towards their gated community. In an effort to protect the students, the security guards opened the gates—unintentionally allowing both the fleeing students and pursuing police to enter.

Within moments, chaos broke out. The air filled with teargas, and the sharp crack of rubber bullets echoed through the once peaceful neighborhood. Amid the confusion, the father and son were caught in the crossfire, both injured by rubber bullets as they tried to find safety. 

With no time to waste, they were rushed to a private hospital in Panthapath. Doctors administered first aid, but it was clear they needed to be admitted for further treatment. However, in the midst of the nationwide political unrest, the internet was down, and the family couldn’t access cash from ATMs or make card payments.

Panicked and unsure of what to do, the mother reached out to a colleague over the phone, hoping for help. That colleague quickly contacted their office HR, who wasted no time in alerting Guardian Life Insurance.

Days later, after receiving the care they needed, both father and son recovered and were discharged from the hospital. The ordeal had been terrifying, but through it all, Guardian Life had stood by them.
