The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced new gold prices, setting a record high for the market.

In a press release issued on Saturday, BAJUS stated that the price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk 2,613 per bhori, bringing the new rate to Tk 140,061 per bhori—the highest in the country's history.

The revised prices for other categories are as follows, 21-carat gold is now priced at Tk 133,704 (1 lakh 33 thousands 704) per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 1 lakh 14 thousands 599 per bhori, and traditional method gold at Tk 94 thousands 117 per bhori.

BAJUS explained that the price hike was necessary due to rising costs in the local market for raw gold and other factors. The new rates will come into effect on Sunday (October 20).

This price adjustment comes after the association had previously reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 1,259 per bhori on September 28, setting it at Tk 1 lakh 37 thousands 449. So far this year, gold prices have been adjusted 43 times—26 increases and 17 decreases.
