National Bank Limited was recently recognized as the "Top Remittance Bank Receiver 2024" at the "Bangladesh Remittance Fair 2024" held in the United States. The event recognized National Bank for being the second highest receiver of remittances sent from the United States to Bangladesh. The award was presented at a ceremony at the Bank's Head Office on 25 November 2024 in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
The crest was handed over to Abdul Awal Mintoo, Chairman of National Bank Limited, by Raihanul Islam Chowdhury, Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh-US Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director & CEO, Deputy Managing Directors Sheikh Akhtar Uddin Ahmed, Imran Ahmed, Mohammad Abdul Matin, and Milton Roy, Head of the Foreign Remittance Division of National Bank and Madhusudan Saha, Bangladesh Representative of the Bangladesh-US Chamber of Commerce and Industry were also present the ceremony.
Abdul Awal Mintoo, Chairman of National Bank, thanked the award presenters and mentioned that this recognition belongs to the expatriate remittance warriors. He expressed gratitude to them for their contribution. He also mentioned that National Bank, as a pioneer in remittance acceptance, began bringing foreign earnings into Bangladesh in 1994 through a partnership with Western Union. He also said, "This success story of National Bank Limited exemplifies the potential for turnaround through focused leadership and strategic investments in technology and human capital. As NBL continues to navigate the evolving landscape of foreign remittance, its commitment to excellence and growth remains unwavering."
Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director & CEO of National Bank Limited, said that the bank has subsidiary institutions in various countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, and Greece for collecting remittances. However, he stated that the bank aims to collect even more remittances in the future. Due to the recent dollar crisis, the import of raw materials and fuel for industries has been affected. To ensure the regular import of essential products and raw materials, they are working to increase both remittances and exports. He also said, "At NBL, our vision is clear: to be the leading choice in foreign remittance by prioritizing customer satisfaction, technological innovation, and a dedicated workforce. Together, we are not just transferring money; we are facilitating dreams and aspirations".
