Uber, the leading ridesharing app, is marking a significant milestone in November - its 8th anniversary in Bangladesh. Since its launch in November 2016 in Dhaka, Uber has been a driving force in the country’s transportation sector, gradually expanding its services to cater to the diverse needs of the people.

Uber Bangladesh has been pivotal in driving economic growth, achieving several key milestones over the past eight years. The platform has served over 7.2 million riders and provided livelihood opportunities for over 350,000 driver-partners. The sheer scale of Uber’s operations is truly staggering. In the 8 years of operation, Uber drivers have travelled over 122 Crore kilometers, equivalent to travelling from Earth to the Moon over 3000 times!

Since its launch 8 years ago, Uber Bangladesh has facilitated 16.6 crore trips, reflecting the vibrant and growing community of Uber users nationwide. Additionally, 3.5 lakh driver-partners have earned through the Uber platform.

To mark its 8th anniversary, Uber Bangladesh has launched the ‘Thank You’ Campaign as a gesture of gratitude. Since November 24, under the “Thank You” campaign, Uber launched a series of initiatives to recognize and celebrate its top driver-partners, riders, and hero partners. The campaign included on-trip thank-you tokens to express gratitude to drivers and riders, fostering a sense of appreciation during their journeys. For top driver-partners, Uber organized a free all-day health camp to prioritize their well-being, alongside exclusive lifestyle vouchers for top riders as a token of acknowledgement. These initiatives underline Uber’s commitment to celebrating the contributions of its community. All this special recognition is dedicated to its hero partners who go above and beyond in their service.

Nasheed Ferdous, Country Head, Uber Bangladesh, said, “Over the past eight years Uber has become an integral part of Bangladesh's mobility ecosystem, connecting millions of riders with drivers who are the backbone of our platform. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to improving mobility and creating meaningful economic opportunities in the communities we serve.”

Throughout the year, Uber has actively collaborated with government bodies such as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Law Enforcement Agencies, and the BRTA to launch multiple initiatives promoting road safety awareness as part of Safety Week. These efforts reflect Uber’s commitment to encouraging safer streets and positively impacting the community.

Bangladesh stands out as one of the most promising ridesharing markets, with its young and dynamic population, increasing digital penetration, and the critical need to decongest urban roads. As the Government advances its vision of building a new Bangladesh, Uber sees a generational opportunity to revolutionize urban mobility, making transportation safer, smarter, and more efficient for millions nationwide.

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 15 billion trips later, we’re building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities. Uber has served more than 7.2million riders and created livelihoods for more than 350,000 drivers till 2024 in Bangladesh.
