Tencent, a global leading internet and technology company, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Intellectual Property Forum (BIPF), is proud to announce the successful hosting of the seminar titled “Maximizing the Potential of the Gaming Industry in Bangladesh” at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka. The event brought together key stakeholders from the government, industry, academia, and gaming communities to explore the immense potential of the gaming sector in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and fostering innovation in Bangladesh.
Discussions at the seminar highlighted the rapid growth of the $200 billion global gaming industry, surpassing the music and film industries combined. With Bangladesh emerging as one of the fastest-growing economies in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the gaming industry presents a unique opportunity to diversify the country’s digital economy and contribute significantly to its GDP.
Yee Ler Lau, Head of Public Affairs, APAC at Tencent, emphasized the transformative potential of the gaming industry, stating, “The gaming industry goes beyond entertainment; it is a powerful economic engine that creates jobs, drives technological innovation, and fosters global connectivity. Bangladesh, with its young, tech-savvy population and growing digital infrastructure, is well-positioned to seize the immense opportunities that the global gaming industry brings. Tencent looks forward to collaborating closely with partners in Bangladesh to develop its gaming and digital ecosystem for the benefit of communities and the economy in Bangladesh.”
ABM Hamidul Misbah, Founder of BIPF, echoed this sentiment, adding, “The gaming industry in Bangladesh is at a pivotal moment. With the right policies, investments, and collaboration between the public and private sectors, we can unlock its full potential. This seminar is a step towards building a sustainable ecosystem that not only benefits the economy but also empowers our youth with new skills and career opportunities in game development, esports, and related fields.”
The event featured insightful presentations and panel discussions on various aspects of the gaming and digital ecosystem, including the current state of the gaming industry in Bangladesh, the role of esports, the need for supportive policy frameworks, and the importance of investing in technical infrastructure and human resources. Panelists included representatives from the government, gaming startups, esports teams, academia, and the telecom industry, who collectively emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to harness the gaming industry’s full potential.
