Khulna Zone of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC organized the Agent Banking Business Development Conference and Workshop on the Prevention of Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Shilpakala Academy in Khulna. Obayed Ullah Al Masud, chairman of the bank graced the program as a the chief guest. Mohammed Monirul Moula, managing director, presided over the program while Professor Dr. M. Masud Rahman, chairman, risk management committee of the bank, addressed the program as a special guest.
A. K. M. Mahbub Morshed, head of Development Wing, Mohammad Rezaul Karim, executive vice president, Abul Laise Mohd. Khaled, head of Agent Banking Division & Muhammad Qamrul Bari Imami, head of Khulna Zone of the bank also addressed the program. Heads of branches and proprietors of the agent banking outlets under Khulna Zone attended the conference.
In his speech as the chief guest, Obayed Ullah Al Masud, stated that Islami Bank is the bank for the people of all classes and professions. This bank has earned a good reputation internationally extending beyond the country´s borders. Around 6,500 units of Islami Bank are providing smooth services across the country. Agent banks are also facilitating banking services in remote areas. General people are now easily receiving banking services even in villages. Investment schemes have already been introduced in agent banks. He urged agent owners to provide services with honesty and efficiency, adhering to proper procedures.
In his speech as chair, Mohammed Monirul Moula stated that Islami Bank holds deposits of more than 25.00 million people. This bank has collected fresh deposit Tk. 17 thousand crore of which agent outlets have collected 25% of the deposit. He has given instructions to sustain this upward trend.
At the conference, information was disclosed that Islami Bank is currently providing banking services in remote areas through 2,783 agent outlets across 473 upazilas in the country. The number of agent banking customers of Islami Bank is more than 50 lakhs. Islami Bank’s agent outlets hold 39% deposits and 56% of foreign remittances of the country’s agent banking sector. In 2024, Islami Bank's agent banking collected Tk.2,277 crore as new deposits and Tk 17,000 crore in remittances.
